For centuries, poker, in one form or another, has been an extremely popular card game. Although the origins of poker cannot be dated back to any set point in time, some believe it to be derived from the Persian game of As Nas, whilst others believe it to have been born from a mixture of other card games and was initially played around the beginning of 18th century in America. Wherever poker has originated from, it is obvious throughout its history that it is a card game in which the more people that play, the better the game is, with poker games featuring many players today being some of the best tournaments around.

Originally, poker was a game that was played with a handful of people, generally in bars or other social venues. Over time, as the popularity of poker increased, these small groups of people playing poker grew bigger and poker tournaments began to be born.

Somewhat surprisingly, the idea of a poker tournament is a relatively new one when compared to the suspected age of poker. It was not until the late 1960s when poker tournaments began to become popular amongst the masses, both players and casinos and 1970 saw the very first major poker tournament be held in Binions Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas, the World Series of Poker.

Seen as the most popular poker tournament on todays poker calendar, the World Series of Poker, WSOP, started out as a meagre tournament, with only seven players, albeit the most popular poker players of the time, taking part. Over the following years, the tournament grew slowly but surely and by 1980, there were over 70 participants and the prize money had risen from 30,000 dollars in 1971, no prize money was awarded in the first tournament, to 385,000 pound.

The coming two decades saw the World Series of Poker tournament snowball in popularity. By the start of the 1990s, the prize money had reached 1,000,000 million and entrants rocketed to over 500 prior to the turn of the millennium.

Throughout its existence, the tournament has seen many unforgettable moments at its tables, some of which have helped tremendously to increase the tournaments popularity. One of the most memorable moments in the tournaments history was the final table of the 1982 tournament. Jack Strauss was playing a hand and the time came for him to place all of his chips on the table. Strauss lost the hand and stood up to move away from the table. As he got up, he noticed something under his napkin, a 500 dollar chip. The rest, although a cliche, is history and Strauss went on to win and take home over half a million dollars.

In addition to the WSOP, the World Poker Tour is one of the most favoured poker tournaments to be involved in. The World Poker Tour consists of a numerous games of Texas Hold Em, which are held all over the world. The main difference the tournament has over the WSOP is also the reason why the tournament is so popular, any player, regardless of ability, can buy in to the tournament. The buy in amount can range from 2,500 dollars to 25,000 dollars, but overall, it allows any level of poker player to be involved in one the worlds most popular poker tournaments.

When the term free poker is mentioned to a lot of poker players, they think one of two things, either the term relates to playing with free money on an online casino, where the winnings can not be withdrawn, or that there is some catch, such as the winnings are minimal, meaning it will not be worthwhile playing for any substantial length of time. However, for those who look a little further into the term free poker and its possibilities, there are several ways that the wonderful card game can be played completely free of charge.

The first point to carry out is to find the best and most appropriate deal to play poker for free. In general, there are two main ways to play without risking any of the players own money, taking advantage of an online signup bonus and using deposit incentives.

Taking advantage of a signup bonus is the easiest method, however it obviously holds some restrictions, a signup bonus can only happen once per online casino and there are only a certain amount of casinos offering signup bonuses. With this in mind, for many, signup bonuses are the number one way to play free poker.

The majority of signup bonuses work by the casino or poker room offering a set amount of money for new players to spend once they have completed the signup process. A lot of these signup bonuses require at least some deposit before they are triggered and the free money is passed into the players account. However, some of the larger casinos have been known to offer completely free money upon a successful signup of a new player.

Deposit incentives work in a similar fashion to signup bonuses; however they are not restricted to new players. Although rarer than signup bonuses, many casinos offer these incentives to current players to ensure that they continue to play. A prime example of a deposit incentive is where the casino stipulates that if a minimum of 50 pound is deposited each month, the casino will provide an extra 10 percent of the total deposit amount to play with. As with signup bonuses, there are often criteria that have to be bet before this money can be withdrawn, generally that it has to be gambled a set amount of times, but if a minimum of 50 pound would normally be deposited and played with, then this extra money is simply an added extra.

Not only does choosing the best deal matter considerably when deciding to play free poker, but the actual game itself impacts on the amount of winnings that are going to be hopefully won. Texas Hold Em is Em is without doubt the most popular poker game and therefore it can be easier to make substantial winnings as there are more players, therefore more money is gambled and the total amount of cash available is high. However, as the game is so popular, the competition is high and there is a good chance that there are several better poker players playing, even if the player considers themselves to be competent at poker. As this is apparent, it may be worthwhile for players looking to increase their winnings with their free poker money to choose another poker game, such as Five Card Draw, where it is often seen as a less challenging game as the players do not need to read their opponents as much and the game relies more on the deal of the cards.

In one form or another, roulette has been played for centuries all over the globe. From its supposed primitive beginnings in 18th century France, to the now multimillion pound industry that takes a prominent place in all major casinos, roulette has long been thought of as a traditional casino game. However, unlike other traditional casino games, roulette relies solely on the players luck as they can have no effect on what the outcome of the spin of the roulette wheel might be. With this in mind and the chance, in essence, to lose all of ones money in one spin, why has roulette stayed as such a popular casino game?

If entering a modern day casino and heading to the roulette tables, there will almost always be two obvious sets of people playing. First of all, a large amount of roulette players are made up of the holiday or weekend players. These players have no game plan or strategy that they stick to and simply place a low stakes bet on either red or black or, for example, their favourite number.

The second group of players that generally accommodate the roulette areas of casinos are those that are playing seriously. They have a set plan in mind and stick to it, placing an array of different bets such as a street or a six line. Regular players, they appear to be winning vast amounts of money by sticking to their strategy.

Unfortunately for those serious roulette players, there is, contrary to popular belief, no strategy or set way to win at roulette.

Roulette is a complete gambling game. Whereas other casino games, such as poker or blackjack, have an aspect of skill to them, for example, in blackjack players need to know when to stick, roulette simply relies on players choosing their numbers or colours and hoping that the roulette ball lands on the appropriate number. In addition, many people have provided formulas that say, in general, to place a bet on the same colour until it comes up, increasing the stake each time. Many believe this to work on a mathematical equation, if a red does not come after 10 spins, chances are it is going to come up on spin number 11. The truth is, there is no logic at all to this as each spin on the roulette table is a 50 50 choice, excluding the 0 option, therefore if black came up 100 times, the next spin of the roulette wheel is still a 50 50 chance of whether the result will be red or black.

This does not make roulette a poor game or a game that is not worth playing. Take a look at bingo or keno. Both similar to roulette in the fact the players have no choice on the outcome and can only choose their numbers, they are both massively popular games across the world. There is an element of luck that people cherish in these types of games. Not always do people want to know that they can win the game and occasionally prefer the excitement value of not being aware of the final outcome.

Since its introduction to the world in the 18th century, when it was played in gambling venues throughout France and other parts of Europe, roulette has grown in popularity almost continuously. Unlike several other casino games, roulette has had a very small amount of changes sine its integration into the gambling world and in the most part, play remains exactly the same as it was over 100 years ago.

Betting in roulette can be very straightforward or extremely complex, as there are possibilities and variations to suit everyones needs. From an easy red or black bet, in which the player decides whether the roulette ball is going to land on a red or black number, to the more complex corner bets, where four individual numbers can be chosen using just one chip, each bet has a different risk factor with a payout to match.

Although many consider roulette to have an aspect of skill to it, it is completely a luck-only game. Casinos around the world have realised that people enjoy taking time out to play a game that requires no skill, unlike Texas Hold Em or blackjack and over the years have introduced a variety of luck based games.

In the United Kingdom and Europe in general, bingo is one of the most popular forms of luck games. The way bingo is played is very straightforward. First, players receive a card that features a variety of numbers from 1 through to 90 and each player can usually have as many cards as they wish. Numbered balls from 1 to 90 are then picked at random from a container and a bingo caller tells the players what the number is. Each player must then mark that number off their card and therefore care must be taken not to be over zealous with the number of bingo cards taken, as it is often difficult to check several cards at once.

To win money on bingo, players must either complete one horizontal line, known as a Line, or once this has been claimed, a full card must be completed, known as having a House.

Across the ocean in America and keno is the luck game of choice in casinos. Originating in China, although the exact time of its introduction varies considerably, keno is played very similarly to bingo. 80 small balls, all labeled with the numbers from 1 to 80, are placed into a bowl and churned to continually mix them up. The main difference between keno and bingo is that unlike bingo, keno players choose the numbers that they believe are going to come up.

Once each player has chosen their numbers, which can be any amount from 1 to 20, the game begins and 20 numbers are drawn at random and placed upon the keno board for all to see. Players then check their cards and receive winnings depending on how much they wagered and how many numbers they matched.

All three games, bingo, keno and roulette, are very easy games to play and get to grips with, making them the perfect introductory games for beginners to the casino world.
