Lets face it; gambling is fun! Although we would not want to be truly addicted to it, risk taking is something as natural as salivating for that rare, tender steak that smells so primal.

Well, it is not every day that we can get our gambling itches scratched by driving to Vegas, but guess what? We can actually stay at home and get into the game.

If you have time to think about playing in the casino, then you will have time to surf the net and actually join an online tournament. Whether your game of choice is blackjack or poker, you are sure to find the best tables to play, without having to worry about other players hands affecting your own.

So where, where, where?

You do have choices of course. You can opt to download software, or you can choose to not download software and just go straight to playing games that do not require any special program. Although, most players would agree that downloading the software gives you the chance to play the casino games at their finest forms.

Online casinos have truly made it easier for you to join the online gambling community. If you enter an online casino site, you have the option to play through downloading software or click on a similar option and play its casino games. The different ways of playing in online casinos are flash, Java, HTML, and Live Dealer.

Flash based online casinos

Because this way of playing in online casinos is done through Flash, you do not have to download any software in order to join. The advantage is that you do not have to overcrowd your computer to accommodate such mindless yet stimulating entertainment; plus if your computer crashes, you can sneak into your officemates cubicle and use his computer to play. The disadvantage is that the graphics would not be as nice as when you download a software program.

Among the downloadable casino programs are Java, HTML, and Live Dealer. Casino software that is downloaded provides the best online gambling experience. This is because you will have access to the most detailed graphics, and a fast paced game play. With Live Dealer, you will have more options than what HTML and Java can offer. Aside from that, downloaded casino software does not require the latest hardware for you to access them.

HTML and Java online casinos were among the first software programs that offered gambling online. Although you may still find Java, chances are, you will not play through it since you already have either Live Dealer or have caught the hang of flash playing.

The horses are at the gate, the warm sun is shining on your face, you’re sipping your favorite brew, you have a great seat, cool binoculars, and hopefully a winning wager these are the thrills of horse racing. If you don’t feel that thrill even with all these neat things happening to you, maybe you just need to understand horse racing a little better.

We’ve put together a small list here for you so you’ll be absolutely thrilled the next time you go to the racetrack.

Know the Horses
If you just look blindly at the racing forms for each horse running in any race that will give you the basics, but the neither the jockey or trainer, or even the horse for tnhat matter will come up to you and say, hey I’m good.

Do some research on your own about the horse and find out how hes done, obtain track records, what races has it won, and is it or has it ever been sick? Who were the horses parents and did they run any races or are they pretty much glue?

Trainers and Jockeys
You like the name Wingnut for the horse you want to bet on and he looks fine but do you know anything about the jockey who is riding him or who trained him or how he has been trained? If not, once again, we suggest you check out the trainers experience to see if the jockey has won a significant amount of races, is familiar with the horse, and knows how to handle the horse. See, are you starting to feel the thrill yet?

Betting
You didnt come to the track just to watchafter all, you can win money by betting on horses! There are basically three ways to bet on old Wingnut! First, you can bet to win and this usually gives the highest payout if the horse wins. The fastest horse usually wins so if Wingnut is limping, switch horses.

Second, you can bet to place. Betting to place means your chosen horse will come in first or second see how simple? Finally, you can bet to show where your horse may come in first, second, or third. This will give you the lowest payout but its safer than the first two ways to bet.

Stamina
Horse racing is one of the oldest sports ever and if you want to be a horse nut and find that thrill, think not just about the race itself, but how the horse you picked is gliding, running, streaming down the track. Think of how hard he has to work and what stamina he must have. Its a pretty awesome feeling watching each horse and watching old Wingnut passing the leaders to win!

Winning and Betting
This is a big thrill in horse racing. While the guy next to you may be looking at the technical side of horse racing for tips or some other dumb reason, you can bet he has a wager in his pocket after all, thats really what the thrill is watching Wingnut win and redeeming your winnings!

There may be a lot of dispute on which race is considered to be the best horse race ever, but since we are writing this article, we are generally going to tell you our opinion of the best horse race ever! First of all, we guess we think the best horse race ever was the one we won the most money on. But since that doesnt really define the best race ever, we had to do a little research on popular opinion to find out really what was the best race?

Through our vast availability and connectivity to the Internet, we were able to determine that many races are thought of as THE race to remember, so we read and read and read until we decided which race we liked best. Hold on to those wagering sheet. Here it is!

The absolutely best horse race ever has to be Secretariat in 1973 winning the last leg of the Triple Crow the winning time has never been broken and isnt that what records are all about breaking them? Jockey Ron Turrotte took Big Red into the winners circle with style that day and until we have a horse that runs like this thoroughbred, we are sticking to our claim, that this race was and is the best horse race EVER!

Born in 1970 Secretariat was destined to win the 1973 Triple Crown an achievement that hadnt been accomplished in 25 years. His record of 1:59 2/5 still stands as the fastest running time for the Kentucky Derby and his record of 2:24 at the Belmont Stakes also stands to this day. However, we like the running of the roses best and if you had an opportunity to watch Secretariat win that race we bet its your favorite too.

Secretariat was a large chestnut colt born in Virginia and owned by Penny Chenery Tweedy. His trainer was Canadian born Lucien Laurin. He stood at 16.2 hands tall and weighed in at 1,175 pounds in his prime racing days.

Given a 3 2 favorite status in the 1973 Kentucky Derby, Secretariat broke last but gradually moved up in the backstretch overtaking deadly rival Sham and pulling away to win by 2 length an awesome and wonderful site to watchfull of excitement, especially if you had a winning ticket! It would be nearly 28 years before another horse would run the Kentucky Derby in less than two minutes something we all pray to see each year, but remains a top achievement for Secretariat.

A little known fact that over 5,000 winning ticket holders never cashed in their tickets and opted for keeping them as souvenirs. While we would never do this because we like the money we think its neat that they did!

Over 134,000 thousand screaming and sweaty fans watch Secretariat win the Kentucky Derby that day and as Ron Turrotte, the proud jockey of the day rode him to the winners circle, people everywhere were heard to say, weve seen greatness today!

Yep, we still think that Secretariats win that warm day in 1973 was and remains the best horse race ever and if you didnt get to see it someone, somewhere, probably on YouTube has it recorded.

We all remember Billy Shoemaker and how he won so many horse races and sat atop some of the most famous horses, but who are some of the other top jockeys? Well talk about them here and some of their records and then you can decide if they are tops or if you like someone else.

Garrett Gomez
After his substance abuse dilemma when he missed over twenty months of racing he won the jockey Eclipse Award in 2003 that is awarded to most outstanding jockey.

He has made the most bucks out of any North American jockey of approximately $21 million and had four victories in 2008, including the Breeders Cup where he rode the horse Ventura. We think he is pretty cool anyone who can overcome a tough time and win a lot of money is someone we admire!

Edgar Prado
This jockey won the Belmont Stakes in 2002 with Sarava and has become known as the longest shot to ever win a race what an achievement, we think. In 2006, he rode Barbaro to win that race and in 2008, he continues his award winning jockey title riding Benny the Bull, Tough Tizs Sis, and Adriano.

With a modest $14 million (yeah right) in total lifetime winnings, he was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in this year after he won his 6,000th race. Way cool, we think.

Kent Desormeaux
This jockey has won the Eclipse Award for outstanding jockey two times! While he did win both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, he has yet to champion the Belmont Stakes but we think he will someday if he keeps jockeying.

With 5,000 career wins, he too has been elected to the Horse Racing Hall of Fame and has made just a tad over $14 million in his career wow, wed like to be related to him!

John Velazquez
He too won that Eclipse Award twice! In 2007, he won the Belmont States atop Rags to Riches who was the first Philly since 1905 to win this race. He came in second in 2008s Breeders Cup and he too is hanging in there with only $14 million in earnings whats with all the fourteens?

Mike Smith
Okay, we found a jockey whose earnings are around only $8.8 million he has some catching up to do. Also a two time Eclipse Award winner, he has be given the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award this is awarded by jockey peers kind of like an NFL player going to the Pro Bowl. To us, his best accomplishment is that he has won more Breeders Cup titles than any other active jockey out there wow.

Somehow we feel we would be remiss here if we didnt mention other jockeys who are tops in the field but in a big and bad way!

Dermot Browne has admitted to doping 23 horses, Dean Gallagher keeps failing drug tests, John Egan, was suspended from riding after being found guilty of corruption what he corrupted we dont actually know though. Chris Munce had to go to jail for twenty months for conspiring again who or what he was conspiring with is a mystery to us.

Dean McKeown had to end his thirty year racing career over the laying of eleven horses what a bad boy. Finally, we must add Kieren Fallon to this list his past includes pulling another jockey from a horse (meanie), keeps landing in rehab, and has been accused of race fixing.

Well, now you have what jockey names are worth a mention, and you can pick any of these top good jockeys and well, most of the bad ones dont ride anymore so you probably won t see their names on any betting lists. If we have not named your favorite Jockey here, we apologize, but after all, it is our list.

Oh the smell of the dirt and the horses and the fans and the horses! What are the top horse racing tracks and where the heck are they?

We watch horse racing on television but do those announcers EVER tell us where the race is? No, they usually say it once when you’re in the kitchen getting your chips and beer before the race begins.

If you miss that, you’re out of luck, but here, we are proud to tell you where they are and why they’re tops. We picked out four here and we will tell you why we like each one of them.

Churchill Downs/Kentucky
The home of the Kentucky Derby, this horse track is full of wealthy ladies with big hats with Mint Juleps in one hand and Burgoo Stew in the other. Opened in 1875, the vision of Col. M. Lewis Clark, who also won here as a jockey, Churchill Downs has grown over the years in popularity.

In 1902, Matt Winn who bought the failing track was actually incorporated in 1942. Years went by until 1980 when CEO and President, Thomas H. Meeker demanded expansion he got it. In 2005, the $121 million dollar renovations were complete including revamping the grandstands and clubhouse.

This racetrack is full of history, but mostly, we like the idea of the computerized advanced deposit wagering set up in 2007 easier for us to bet at home since we cant afford tickets to actually go there.

Belmont Park/New York
Who doesn’t like New York? Its the apple state, oops; we mean it has a city nicknamed The Big Apple. That alone is great for apple lovers, but we love this track too. This 430-acre track in Elmont, NY has two super seasons, one from April to July and the fall season in September and October. This too is home to one of our favorite races, The Belmont Stakes, part of The Triple Crown.

The track here is 1 and a half miles in length and even though they claim they can fit 90,000 people here, they only have 32,941 seats so most of us who attend will be standing. You should be exceptionally well dressed to get into Belmont Park, even if the parking is only four bucks.

They will let you bring in coolers for your beer, but only if you aren’t sitting with the wealthy people and for our betting or should we say losing convenience, this track has ATMs on the first, second, third, and fourth floorsnice!

Hollywood Park/California
Wow, who doesn’t like Hollywood! Thats exactly what we thought, but we really do enjoy this track. Opened in 1938, old Jack Warner of Warner Brothers Studios must have liked horses and betting on them he also enlisted a lot of Hollywood types to invest in Hollywood Park. It was used as a storage facility from 1942 to 1944 because of WWII, the big one, and a fire in 1949, put it out of business until its reopening in 1950.

In 1951, Citation became the first million dollar horse winner here and we bet he was proud! This track was the first to offer exacta wagering in 1971 something we are fond of. In 1973, another $3 million was offered up for renovation purposes. Where do you think all your bets go? The rack track itself is 1 1/8 miles and is awesome to see.

Off site betting in Del Mar, San Bernardino, and Ventura came along in 1987, and this used to be the home of the world famous Breeders Cup! In 1994 its further renovation of $20 million gave this park the class it needed and if you don’t want to bet on a horse race there is a casino too and we like that!

Santa Anita/California
Well, they say California is sun filled with surfer happy people who say way wow, and are everywhere thats just part of the reason we like it here. Another reason is that this track opens every year the day after Christmas so ask for cash this year!

While you cant bring a Frisbee, fly a kite or wear your rollerblades at this track, it will be the home of the 2009 Breeders Cup a first for this track. It covers 320 acres and a complete equine hospital (that s a horse hospital if you didnt know).

You dont have to dress up here if you get box seats, but if you shell out $7.50 you can sit in the clubhouse but you have dress up there and if your Grandma is 62 or older, she can get in free on Thursdays! We liked it here because there are friendly people who will explain to you how to bet or you can read one of their information full brochures on how to wager!

All of these places have great horse racing tracks and if you have only watched horse races on TV, dont fret, now that you know what its like to visit these tracks, maybe you can just make an offsite bet and stay at home with your beer and chips.
